Emissions Trading on Sibex

KDF Energy, Intercapital Invest and Sibex launch Emissions Trading.

KDF Energy, the most important emissions broker in Romania and Intercapital Invest announce the execution of the first trade with EUA Carbon Credits (pollution rights) executed on a Romanian exchange.

The trade was executed on the Sibex Exchange on January 22, 2010 at a price of 53.04 RON/T (12.82 EUR/T). The trade is a first for Romania, as previously all carbon credits trading in the country was done over the counter. EUA trading on Sibex is done through futures contracts with daily expiration and physical delivery.

EUA trading (or emissions trading) is based on the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS), a major pillar of EU climate policy. Under the EU ETS, the governments of the EU Member States agree on national emission caps which have to be approved by the EU commission, allocate allowances to their industrial operators, track and validate the actual emissions in accordance against the relevant assigned amount, and require the allowances to be retired after the end of each year. The operators within the ETS may reassign or trade their allowances, either over-the-counter through specialized brokers, or on an exchange. For additional information on EU ETS follow this link.
